Born in Derby, Marjorie helped her father to polish pearl shell carvings as well as taxidermy turtles and crocodiles as a child. As an adult, she worked in the Mowanjum clinic, Derby Regional Hospital and studied Aboriginal Health at Curtin University.
The images in Marjorie's paintings are recalled from family stories. She loves to paint the elegant, highly decorated Gyorn Gyorn figures, which represent the earliest Kimberley inhabitants. ‘The Wandjinas were able to give these people proper laws to follow...’ she says. '...they are our distant relatives.'
Marjorie is a meticulous artist whose delicate brushwork perfectly captures the gracefulness of the Gyorn Gyorn form.
