Product Details

The word 'sugarbag' is a European word for the honey produced by Australian native stingless bees. Sugarbag has been a highly prized bush tucker of Aboriginal people across this country for thousands of years.

You will see the language word 'ngarruu' (pronounced 'narr roo') used in the story. This is from the Wiradjuri people of Central West NSW and it is their unique language word for honey.

The traditional way most Aboriginal groups located this yummy honey, was to see a native bee and attach something white or lightly coloured to its back and follow it to the hive. Sometimes people used spider web because it was both white and sticky. Ingeniuos!

Another Wirajuri language word used in in the book is 'dhalay' (pronounced 'dull ay') which is an expression of frustration.
